Wild West horse shoe toss

M is racing through the Magic Tree house books and recently finished no10 A Wild West Ride.  So continuing our theme of a craft or activity to go with each book I  browsed google and Pinterest for ideas. I came up with the idea of making a horse shoe toss game and also a Sherriff's badge to go on his door.

I cut some horse shoe shapes out of some old cardboard boxes and then got M to decorate a stick with patterned sticky tape to make it more interesting.

Once the stick was decorated we stuck it in the grass.  I didn't realise that M had seen this game on one of his kids TV programmes about a sheriff in the Wild West.  So he was quite excited to be giving it a go and decided to tell me how to play it.
He wouldn't go on to tell me what a swinger and leaner meant but I think they were good and a swinger meant you had won the game.
We then took it in turns to try and throw the horse shoes over the stick.  It was a bit cool outside so after a while we moved inside putting this away for a warmer day.  But you could also throw them over a cup or something indoors.
